Pegasus Commission and Post APE Update

Pegasus Commission and Post APE Update

A little while back I was commissioned to do a Pegasus paper sculpt, and here are the final photos. This piece was a blast to work on!

APE was great! Thanks to all who came out to say hello! I apologize to those of you who were waiting for a shop update - Monday was full of deadlines and thus the shop did not get updated until today. All new prints, buttons, and greeting cards are up, and at the time of this posting I still have one paper sculpt (this lovely lady) that is not spoken for. They were a blast to make, so I will certainly try to get more in the shop soon.

Next up for me is CTN-X! I cant wait to see everyone in Burbank!

Past and Present

Past and Present

On valentines day we packed a bag (well, several in my case, including one containing crochet) and set off to spend the weekend in historic stratford on avon (checking the flood warnings first but all seemed ok there).......
.......on the way we visited the university of birmingham where my husband was a student many moons ago........we enjoyed seeing the beautiful old buildings and having a wander round the campus....it was quite a trip down memory lane for both of us.................by the time we arrived at stratford it was very stormy and rainy, but saturday morning was not quite so bad and we enjoyed the day exploring.........
...........above is the house where william shakespeare was born.....we have been before but it was interesting to see it again after many years...........i liked seeing the kitchen.......i love domestic details from the past, and the old stairs, floors and tiny windows................
..............on sunday it was sunny with a bright blue sky and we visited anne hathaways cottage which was her family home before she married shakespeare, and is a really pretty romantic place......the cottage windows with shafts of sunlight coming in and the sweet flowery cutains were so evocative.......the curtain in this picture was patched and mended which i liked a lot......in the summer this garden is famous for its wonderful flowers, but now it is waiting for the spring to come, with the tips of bulbs just peeping through...............there were lots and lots of snowdrops already.........
...............home again now and this is an old sampler design of mine from the 1990s, when i sometimes used to create new/old reproduction style samplers for books, kits and magazines............i later re stitched this one in brighter colours on white linen and then made it into a cushion..............
.............i love sampler cushions and the effect of the stitchery when used on something 3D......
..............the verse and motifs are from old samplers...............
............this week i am stitching tulips for a magazine commission, inspired by botanical prints......
..............this was my present from stratford.......we found a gorgeous shop called *the arter* filled with original art and handmade treasures.......it was a heart skipping moment when i saw this little design by claire brierley........the spool, the little house and the heart with text....well, it just had to come home with me.........
...............haberdashery is one of my favourite things....old and new i love it and am fascinated by it......whenever i can i like to incorporate it into my design work and here is a whole project inspired by it in this months crafts beautiful..............
..........there is a card, a useful storage pocket, a spool cross stitched pin cushion and a little pin keep to make in this project............love the design of the magazine pages too.............
................when we arrived home i found my fabric had arrived at last so i can now put my latest quilt together which i am delighted about :)..........this week is half term so i will be spending some time with my sweet little grandchildren........just off to make them some chocolate crispy cakes now.......
.................thank you, lovely readers, for popping in here to see me, i love your visits and your kind comments very much............wishing you a happy crafty week..............back soon xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Photos Kimye step out in matching white T shirts jeans and coats

The engaged couple stepped out on Wednesday night in New York City sporting coordinated outfits of long coats, white T-shirts and jeans.
Kims jeans featured a selection of artful rips and silver ribbon detail, while her T-shirt appeared to be slashed and she sported black heels and an oversized ankle length black coat. Kanye, meanwhile, sported a large charcoal jacket with grey furry collar, white shirt and brown suede shoes. I say they are the sexiest couple right now and Kims body is something else! Hot!

PB Marshmallow Brownies with HONOR and compliments

PB Marshmallow Brownies with HONOR and compliments

Dont you just love giving someone a compliment?  To see their face light up with happiness or a soft blush come over their cheeks is always so rewarding to me.  Unfortunately for many (including myself) it is often easier to give a compliment than to receive one.  I work hard on accepting compliments with grace and appreciation even though it may make me feel uncomfortable.  Its just one of those things that I continually have to work on in life....Ive accepted it.

Well, not that long ago I received a very BIG compliment.  I was asked by a fellow food blogger, the sweet Maranda of Jolts and Jollies to be a guest on her blog.  OMGoodness was I so happy that she asked me to do so! I have never been asked to be a guest on someone elses blog before!!!  In my humble opinion it is a very HIGH compliment to be asked to write a post on someone elses blog - they are trusting that you will provide the same kind of care, appeal and creativity that they themselves work so hard to provide to their blog followers, family and friends.  Needless to say I was over come with honor when Maranda presented me with her proposition.  Thank you, thank you Dear Maranda for asking me to be a guest blogger on your precious, delicious and fabulous blog.   I enjoyed every minute of it!

Go check out what I wrote up and featured on my guest post on Jolts and Jollies....it sure is YUMMY.  And yes, it contains not only peanut butter but also chocolate and marshmallows coming all together in one lovely brownie. Scrumptious to the MAX!

And while you are over at Jolts and Jollies be sure to check  Marandas delicious recipes.  You wont be disappointed!

I thought I would leave you today with one of my favorite recent views in life.  It just makes me so happy to look at I must say!

Can you guess who it is?  Yup....my little Coco-Nut :-)

Palette Bone and Black Kitchen

Palette Bone and Black Kitchen

Today I thought we might look at a few kitchens that have eschewed the traditional white for bone and shades of black… my dream kitchen would include some of these elements, like the stone floor below - perfection.

Rustic woods and stone floors.
No glam here - this is all about scale and simplicity, allowing the textures to speak for themselves.
Wish we could see this in the evening, with all those lights on...

Okay, its not really a kitchen, but its so darling! Those sconces completely make the vignette, right?

A black-stained plank floor laid in a herringbone fashion ground the space.
I love, love, love the understated hardware and slab backsplash - so quiet.
Rare for a kitchen to have this ethereal quality.

Small in stature but large in interest, the floor balances the black range and energizes the space.

1 2 3 4

Will be back with another bit of black and bone in the next days... fantastic to be finally posting these!

x am

Paranoidbot Diskeeper Craig Jensen and Scientology

Paranoidbot Diskeeper Craig Jensen and Scientology

Heres a hypothetical question - would you install this program on your Windows machine? Heres some features:

1) Its chief CEO is a high ranking Scientologist.

2) It trains its staff in the L Ron Hubbard Management system

3) It rummages through your entire machine, poking around, pushing, pulling and rearranging your files.

Would you say yes? As youre the kind of person whos found Skeptobot then answer is probably "no."

But yet you almost certainly have. Diskeeper
is a defrag corperation, that is run by, and trains its staff in Scientology nonsense. These people then develop the inbuilt Windows defrag software that you use to neaten up your hard drive, and poke around.

Isnt it slightly concerning that Scientology has such access to the whole of your hard drive?

Back in 2000, good old Germany (which beautifully defines Scientology as a "psycho-group") began investigating Diskeeper as a threat to the Constitution.(wired article)

To which the CoE replied:
"Politicians have this theory that we will invade the government and German firms. This really is a stupid thing. What use would we have for all of this data?"

Now one of the main stages in "Auditing" in Scientology is the "PreClear" folders. Its like Confession, where you tell them all your worst secrets (to weaken the attachment of your alien thetans one would expect), and then they store them for all time. "Securely."

Couple that with the California ruling (about the persecution of ex-scientologists) that states:
"…the Church has in its possession his or her most inner thoughts and confessions, all recorded in pre-clear (P.C.) folders or other security files of the organization, and that the Church or its minions is fully capable of intimidation or other physical or psychological abuse if it suits their ends. The record is replete with evidence of such abuse.

From here - page 8 (pdf).

Now Im sure that Scientology arent secretly spying on your machine. But I dont trust them. So I think its an interesting point to be aware off.

Remember the classic privacy slogan - if youve nothing to hide - youre boring.

Disclaimer: Im still researching what has and is happening. I know for sure that Diskeeper software is in Windows 2000, and Im pretty certain its in XP. Ive no idea about Vista. I left that rancid OS brand years ago so Ive no access to any Windows machines.

UPDATE: 15/2/2008 According to Wikipedia" The defragmenter program included with the Windows 2000, 2003, XP, and Vista operating systems is based on a basic version of a previous Diskeeper version.

Paxman and Charlie Brooker humiliate Brain Gym

Paxman and Charlie Brooker humiliate Brain Gym

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
This headmistress must be feeling quite embarrassed right about now.

Ooooh this is a good, good day. Our main man Ben Goldacre has been defending the castle of reason from the pseudo-science bullshit that infests our schools in the form of Brain Gym since 2003. And now in Space Year 2008 it seems it that weve finally reached the critical mass needed for all hell to break lose about the biggest con story in school education this decade.

First up we got a great Newsnight investigation into Brain Gym. If you dont know why this nonsense should make you blood boil with righteous fury then watch it below:

Now that your seething with righteous indignation Ill continue, as you see it doesnt end there. Next we get an interview with the inventor of Brain Gym. Who needs to be made as visible as possible because hes a rambling idiotic meathead who could bring down Brain Gym on its own if all the people using it were ever to meet him. His main method of arguing seems to be gibbering incoherently whilst hoping hes so quiet and slow and dull and tedious and tiring to listen to that youll just take his word for it if it means hell leave you alone. So when Newsnight put him up against Paxman it becomes about the best definition of overkill as you are likely to find.  You must watch the glory below. It is radiant.

And there is more! Charlie Brooker (who is right about everything) heard the cry and has written one of the most scathing attacks on Brain Gym Ive ever read. It is awesome and you must read it.

Look, this is how awesome it is:
[W]e, the adults, dont just gleefully pull the wool over our own eyes - we knit permanent blindfolds. Weve decided we hate facts. Hate, hate, hate them. Everywhere you look, were down on our knees, gleefully lapping up neckful after neckful of steaming, cloddish bullshit in all its forms. From crackpot conspiracy theories to fairytale nutritional advice, from alternative medicine to energy yawns - we just cant get enough of that musky, mudlike taste. Brain Gym is just one small tile in an immense and frightening mosaic of fantasy.

Still, thats just my opinion. Lots of people clearly think Brain Gym is worthwhile, or they wouldnt be prepared to pay through the nose for it. If youre one of them, heres an exciting new kinesiological exercise that should dramatically increase your self-awareness - and Im giving it away free of charge. Ready? OK. Curl the fingers of your right hand inward, meeting the thumb to form a circle. Jerk it rhythmically up and down in front of your face. Repeat for six hours. Then piss off.

Gleeful!

But wait its not over! There is indeed more! This News round up states that the Brain Gym scientific claims are going to be withdrawn:

Paul Dennison, a Californian educator who created the programme, admitted that many claims in his teacher’s guide were based on his “hunches” and were not proper science.

Lets make it clear, no ones against doing group exercise in the classroom, its a great way for a teacher to get the attention and focus of a class. When I was in primary school, my teacher would makes us all go through a routine of putting our hands on our heads and so on before a lesson, and it stopped us talking and it made us pay attention. Its just he didnt need to whore science and pay £800 odd quid to do it.

Thanks to Schrödingers Pig for uploading the youtube vids, and read an excellent post about all this here.

Owls and Lace a winning combination

Owls and Lace a winning combination

Hi there.
Thanks for popping in.
I’ve been busy blitzing the house today.
It certainly needed it.
There’s something very rewarding about leaving housework
to the point where it looks like it’s been burgled though.
Firstly, you see a really significant result instantly.
Just by folding the mountain of clothes
and thereby creating a clear pathway through the bedroom!
And there’s nothing like a Dysson vacuum cleaner for actually SEEING the benefits through the window.
Quite worrying really....

But that’ll do for another wee while;
let’s not get carried away!

Instead, let’s take a look at one of the colouring preps I have done for the 5pm Show tomorrow.
I can’t get enough of these Petite Gel Press Plates and lace.
So I thought I would see if you can use it to create a funky background ....

Let’s take one of the Bookmarks - the Owls.

Ink up the Square Petite with a lovely Pink. I used
Artistry Rosy Cheeks

Press through the flowery lace,

Start in the centre and work your way outwards.

Mmm.... So do we think we will be able to bring the delicate owls back out of this busy camouflage?

Here’s a Postcard prepped too....

Grey and pink pencils only.
Now watch how they appear again.

Tackle each owl individually,
and watch as they slowly begin to take form.

Can we bring them out of the lacy background?

Not half!

And the shattered lacey design in the background really sets it off.
Good enough to frame.

Or make a very long card!

Delighted with that.
I reckon this would look excellent in blue too. Towittwoo!

Hope you can join me tomorrow on HOCHANDA.
2pm Stamps
Two beautiful Christmas stampsets illustrated by Jayne Nestorenko.
These two sets, Poinsettia and The Holly & the Ivy, are created in the same way as the Rose, Dahlia, Agapanthus and Fuchsia which we launched a couple of months ago.
Built to sit in the huge window or picture frame.
We already have them in Groovi;
tomorrow we launch them as stamps.

5pm Colouring (The mountboard frames are in!)

We shall take another look into our Feathered Friends Colouring Book. It’s time to start thinking about Christmas Presents!
And this colouring bundle complete with mountboard frames would make an amazing gift. Or two. Or three. Or thirty!

8pm Groovi launch: Build-a-wreath Linda Williams Style!
Now these Groovi Plates you have to see to fully appreciate just how brilliantly versatile they are!

You do realise that you can watch on the HOCHANDA website too, don’t you? It is streamed LIVE, and then available to view for about a week on their catch-up.
So if you live in the States, or Australia, or Europe, or you simply can’t get us on your TV, go to HOCHANDA.com - and there we will be!

Looking forward to it!

Love & Hugs,
Barb

PS
Just realised something.
Do you know I have blogged every single day since 16th October 2013? That’s over 3 years.
And today is a very special number of blogs.
Ready for this?
1,111 posts.
One thoudand, one hundred and eleven.
That’s substantial.
Can I stop yet?
Time for a cup of tea...
